Colfe's School Digital Archives

The Chambers Archive

Shortly before Richard Chambers, Old Colfeian, passed away in November 2012, he generously donated his precious collection of antiquarian local history to the school, together with other books, memorabilia and a sum of money to be spent on the school archive.

It was felt that the construction of The Chambers Archive would be an ideal use of this money. It is hoped that as much material as possible in the archive will be scanned. This includes the school magazine ‘The Colfeian’ and ‘Colfensia’ (the original school magazine until it joined with The Colfeian in the 1950s), and whole school photographs, enabling anyone to research their own school career, or that of their ancestors.

We are also grateful for donations received from Jonathan Ragol-Levy (OC72) on behalf of the Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust, which has enabled us to scan the school Roll Book, 1884 to 1928, and many volumes of Colfensia, which was the original school magazine until it joined with The Colfeian in the 1950s, which was the Old Colfeians’ magazine.

This is a very worthwhile project, but it will take some time to put all the resources onto the website. Our gratitude and thanks go to Judy Cardnell (Archivist from 2016-2023) for the work that has already been achieved.

“Archives reveal the School’s rich and varied past and show how it has come to where it is today. It is a story of people – those who made it what it is, and those who were moulded by it”.
